Ghost Rider (2007)

The newest of the comic book movies stars Nicolas Cage and Eva Mendes. I have always been a huge Nicolas Cage fan. He's one of those guys that I find inexplicably sexy. (Don't ask me why, it's inexplicable!) Anyway, I'm always a sucker for movies full of special effects, so it can't be all bad, right?

Well...

By far, my biggest complaints are about the whole idea of a Nicolas Cage character and an Eva Mendes character being in love. Why those two? It is completely unbelievable. He's obviously much older than her (even though their characters were in school at the same time) and they have zero chemistry. And even though, as I said, I find myself drawn to him, I don't know how much longer I can find him believable as the sexy woman-swooner he's often cast as. The funniest part of this movie is the BIZARRE shot of his way too sculpted abs. So, how can you have pencil-thin legs and an 8 pack from hell that would make Marky Mark in his hay day jealous?

Ok, it's not all bad. There are some fairly cool computer-generated special effects. I wasn't impressed by the whole "skull on fire" thing and I wasn't familiar with the comic book before we went, so I could hardly stop from giggling each time he flung his "on-fire" chain around. But, there is a pretty cool scene where the devil-kid & his crew suck the life out of a bar-full of people. The earth, wind, and water guys were cool but extremely lame bad guys. "Hows about I turn into a puddle and grab his foot?! Ah ha ha!"

I am really starting to enjoy all the comic book movies now coming out thanks to the advances in computer generated special effects. Spider Man and X-Men have to be my favorites. However, Ghost Rider was never a comic book I followed. And I have to agree with you – Nicolas Cage just doesn’t seem to fit the part.
